Architectural Space
Having grown up in a small rural community, I’m fascinated by the architectural spaces that make up our urban environments. We define these spaces by creating them, but we — in turn — are redefined by these same spaces as they become our new daily surroundings. Because we live and work in them, we tend to forget about them, even though these artificial enclosures can have the same impact on our daily lives as a forest, mountain range, river, or ocean.
For this project, I confined myself to architectural images that were shot with a Leica M Monochrom. That camera doesn’t have the usual Bayer filter that divides the incoming light into three primary colors. Though limited to black-and-white captures, each pixel gets the full amount of light, sharpness, and dynamic range. The resulting images can be more film-like than you might have when shooting in monochrome with a similar color-capable digital camera.
